The Story!

I was diagnosed with FAI and labral tear in June. Ive had this pain for years, pain that was stopping me in my tracks, I am sure you are too familiar with the pain. I have had four back operations due to herniated discs caused by DDD (degenerative disc disease), in 1993, 1993, 2005 and with my last one in 2007 being a 360 interbody fusion with hardware. with ddd the pain was very intense, in my legs, the front and the back , both butt cheeks. so any time i had groin pain, i always chalked it up to my back...especially the lower back pain. my hip was even xrayed in 2005 and they said it was fine. So back in June, Im walking and bam that pain again...I was like oh no, my back! i went to my doc, actually the pa, and he said it was probably a sore muscle (im getting mad as i am recalling this, cause i knew something wasnt right), so he gave me an anti inflammatory. After the weekend I could not take the pain...called my doc and demanded to see my doc, not the damn PA. he sent for an MRI, with the rsults being normal. perfect!!! all fused!!! so he then examined me...my hip!!! he was sure it was my hip. so he sent me to see an associate of his, who does the hip. he examined me as well, along with xrays, then an mri. and there it was finally I know where this groin pain is coming from. FAI and labral tear!! who knew!!! i can remember this pain for years, before 2000. so, i did cortizone with lil relief, the pain has progressed so much, i actually can not wait for the surgery!!

day 1 FAI/Labral Tear surgery

Yesterday...Oct 5th, 2009...I had a hip arthoscopy for F.A.I and Labral Tear...Im a bit upset that I did not talk to the doc after the procedure. All I know is that I did not wake up with a brace on, so thats good, I guess, meaning that the recovery wont be as long, but I guess it means that he did not have to repair the tear only clean-up?

So today is my first morning after surgery. so far so good! getting around is very hard for me, as i have zero upper body strength. prior to this surgery, i had four lumbar back surgeries. i am using a walker in stead of crutches...im not too swift on those things, lol!!!

I have a pt appt at 10am...so i will post when i get back.

PS thanks a bunch for all of you who blog daily about your experience...it really is helpful!! :-)
